President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian held talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Kyrgyzstan to attend and address the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and the Shanghai Plus meeting.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the latest developments in Iran-India relations and underscored the importance of further strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
President Pezeshkian said Iran has never sought war and stressed that the country’s responsibility is to protect people from insecurity and create the conditions necessary for peace, stability and security.
He noted that Iran has remained committed to the obligations it has undertaken under existing agreements, while the United States has failed to honor its own commitments. Despite this, he said, Iran continues to pursue a path toward agreement and understanding, emphasizing that the continuation of war serves neither the interests of Iran and the region nor those of humanity as a whole.
Pezeshkian also called for avoiding war and confrontation through reason and dialogue. He pointed to the existence of forces in the United States that see their interests in the continuation of conflict, stressing that efforts should instead focus on strengthening the prospects for peace, stability and security.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for his part, agreed that some actors may see their interests in war, but stressed the need to intensify efforts to promote peace. He expressed his conviction that peace and security would ultimately prevail.
The meeting also addressed a number of issues of mutual interest, including transport and maritime cooperation, developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz, and the progress of bilateral cooperation at Chabahar Port.
