Pezeshkian: BRICS Should Strengthen Multilateral Cooperation and Economic Independence
Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian President of the Islamic Republic of Iran addressed the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
In his speech, President Pezeshkian stressed the need to strengthen multilateralism, reform global governance mechanisms, and expand economic and financial cooperation among BRICS member states. Referring to the challenges facing the international system, the Iranian President called for a stronger role for Global South countries in international decision-making and respect for national sovereignty and the equal rights of all states. He also emphasized the importance of developing independent economic cooperation, increasing the use of national currencies in trade, strengthening scientific and technological cooperation, and reducing the vulnerability of member states to sanctions and external pressure. Dr. Pezeshkian also put forward proposals to enhance the effectiveness of BRICS mechanisms, including the establishment of a permanent secretariat and stronger coordination among member states. He reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to work with other BRICS members to advance these objectives.
