Inauguration of the Iranology Hall at Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi
The Iranology Hall at the Department of Persian Language Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi was inaugurated on Thursday May 29 2025 through a ceremony organized with the efforts of the Embassy and the Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi
The opening ceremony, attended by Iran’s ambassador and cultural attaché, the university’s president, professors, and researchers, marked a significant milestone in the development of Iranology studies and in strengthening the cultural and academic ties between the two countries.
Dr. Iraj Elahi, Iran’s ambassador, while referring to the deep historical roots of the Persian language in India, stated:
Persian is not a foreign language in India; it is a part of this country's culture, civilization, and historical memory. Its status in India is unparalleled, even compared to Central Asia.
He emphasized that the embassy is committed to supporting the Persian language within the framework of India's educational policies, and the Iranology Hall has been established as part of this mission.
Dr. Faridoddin Faridasr, Iran’s cultural attaché in New Delhi, presented a report on the planning and implementation process of the project, and said:
Now students, professors, and enthusiasts have a place to directly experience Iran — through the lines of poetry, the sounds of traditional Iranian music, handicrafts, books, photographs of Iran’s scenic spots, and panels depicting the tombs of Iranian poets accompanied by their poetry. These are some of the cultural elements of Iran displayed in this hall.
Dr. Mazhar Asif, President of Jamia Millia Islamia University, also remarked at the ceremony:
This hall is not just a place for Iranology studies; it is an environment where one can truly breathe in the essence of Persian culture, literature, and language.
