Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Attends the Opening Ceremony of the Fifth World Cup of Zurkhaneh Sports and Koshti Pahlavani in New Delhi

At the conclusion of these competitions, which were hosted by India, the national Koshti Pahlavani team of our country won the championship title.

Dr. Mohammad Fathali, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to India, attended the opening ceremony of the Fifth World Cup of Zurkhaneh Sports and Koshti Pahlavani, held in New Delhi on Monday, 22 December 2025.

In his remarks at the ceremony, referring to the importance of Zurkhaneh sports and Koshti Pahlavani, he stated that today, in a world where humanity needs ethics, empathy, and peace more than ever, Zurkhaneh sports can serve as messengers of a culture of chivalry, compassion, and human values, a message that transcends borders, languages, and nationalities.

The Iranian ambassador emphasized that Zurkhaneh sports and Koshti Pahlavani are not merely athletic disciplinesbut rather an ancient heritage with a history of more than 3,000 years, deeply rooted in the history, culture, and identity of the great civilizations of the region. At the end of the competitions, Iran’s team claimed the championship with 150 points, while the teams of Iraq and the Republic of Azerbaijan ranked second and third, respectively.

The Fifth World Cup of Zurkhaneh Sports and Koshti Pahlavani was held in New Delhi, the capital of India, on 22 and 23 December 2025, with      the participation of seven countries, namely Iran, India, Iraq, Belarus, Uganda, Tanzania, and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
