President Pezeshkian Meets Indian Prime Minister on Sidelines of BRICS Summit
Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian President of the Islamic Republic of Iran held talks with Shri Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
The meeting took place on September 11, 2026, during President Pezeshkian’s visit to India to attend the BRICS Summit. It was the second meeting between the two leaders in less than two weeks. They had previously met on August 31 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed various aspects of Iran-India relations and emphasized the importance of further strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation. Prime Minister Modi also appreciated Iran’s continued high-level participation in BRICS-related meetings despite the challenging regional circumstances, and highlighted the potential of BRICS to promote cooperation, innovation, resilience and sustainable development among countries of the Global South.
President Pezeshkian, for his part, underscored the importance of further developing the friendly relations and cooperation between Iran and India. The two sides also exchanged views on the latest developments in West Asia and ways to contribute to peace and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s consistent position on the need to address issues and differences through dialogue and diplomacy, and stressed the importance of continued efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region. The two sides also discussed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and maritime trade, as well as ensuring the safety and security of seafarers.
The meeting also underscored the importance of Iran-India cooperation within multilateral frameworks, including BRICS. Prime Minister Modi also appreciated President Pezeshkian’s participation in the BRICS Business Forum Leaders’ Session.
