President Pezeshkian Arrives in New Delhi to Attend BRICS Summit

President Pezeshkian arrived in New Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit hosted by India.

President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in New Delhi on Friday, September 11, to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, hosted by India.

Pezeshkian’s visit marked his first visit to India as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was received at Palam Air Force Station by Shri Shantanu Thakur, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India.

During his visit, President Pezeshkian participated in the BRICS Summit and the Leaders’ Session of the BRICS Business Forum, while also holding high-level bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit provided an opportunity for the two sides to discuss the further development of Iran-India relations and exchange views on regional and international developments, as well as cooperation within the BRICS framework.

Prime Minister Modi welcomed President Pezeshkian’s participation in the summit and highlighted Iran’s continued high-level engagement with BRICS. The two leaders also discussed recent developments in West Asia and the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, as well as the safety of navigation and maritime commerce in the region.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described India and Iran as countries with longstanding civilizational ties and strong cultural and people-to-people connections, noting that the two countries, as BRICS partners, are working together to contribute to shared progress and prosperity.

The 18th BRICS Summit was held in New Delhi on September 12–13, bringing together leaders of BRICS member states under India’s chairmanship.
